El Rapolao
El Rapolao is a distinguished red wine from the Bierzo DO, showcasing the unique terroir of the Valtuille de Abajo region with a complex and expressive profile.
Vinification
Produced from a blend of Mencía. The grapes are sourced from old vines, some over 100 years old, planted on steep, north-facing slopes with clay and iron-rich soils. Fermentation is done with whole clusters in large open wooden vats, followed by a maceration period of 30–40 days. The wine is aged for 12 months in 500-litre oak barrels to integrate oak while preserving fruit purity.
Tasting Notes
Displays a deep cherry-red color with violet hues. The nose reveals aromas of wild raspberries, red currants, and wild herbs, with a mineral undertone. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity, offering flavors of black plum, graphite, and earthy nuances. The finish is long and elegant with a touch of spice.
Pairing Suggestions
Pairs beautifully with grilled meats, roasted vegetables, dishes featuring mushrooms, aged cheeses, and charcuterie.
